Akashic Records Explained

(Akasha Records)

Many people search for “What is Akashic Records?” while others ask “What are the Akashic Records?” This guide will answer those questions and explain where the idea of the Akashic Records came from, how people access them, why different people experience them in different ways, and what happens during an Akashic Records reading.

What are the Akashic Records?

The Akashic Records are a spiritual record of every soul and its experiences across all lifetimes, including the past, present and possible future. They are often described as a vast field of information containing the choices, relationships, lessons, experiences and potential connected with every soul.

Many people think of the Akashic Records as a spiritual library. Others describe them as a field of consciousness, divine intelligence, universal wisdom or simply a source of spiritual guidance. Although the descriptions differ, they all attempt to explain something that many believe exists beyond the physical world.

Where Did the Idea of the Akashic Records Come From?

The idea of the Akashic Records has evolved over many centuries. The word “Akasha” comes from the ancient Sanskrit language and is often translated as ether, space or the subtle substance that underlies all existence. While the word itself has ancient origins, the idea of the Akashic Records as a universal record of every soul developed much later through the writings of the Theosophical Society during the late nineteenth century.

In the twentieth century, Edgar Cayce introduced the Akashic Records to a much wider audience through his trance readings. He described them as a vast spiritual library containing the records of every soul, and his work has shaped the way many people imagine the Akashic Records today. There are many books about Edgar Cayce and his work, and reading them was one of the things that first sparked my own interest in the Akashic Records.

eople who work with the Akashic Records today often describe and experience them in different ways. As you continue reading this guide, I’ll explain how different people experience the Records, before sharing my own understanding and experiences.

Why Do the Records Exist? Where Are They?

The Records are the blueprint and history of every soul’s unique journey across all lifetimes. Accessing the Records does not create them. It simply allows us to connect with something that is already there. The Records are not a physical place. They are often described as existing beyond space and time, in a spiritual realm that lies outside our physical understanding.

How Do People Access the Akashic Records?

There are many different ways that people describe accessing the Akashic Records, and there is no single approach that everyone follows.

During the twentieth century Edgar Cayce famously accessed the Records while in a self-induced hypnotic trance. Today, many people learn through dedicated training courses, while others use meditation, prayer or other spiritual practices. My own journey began through an attunement, which I experienced as an immediate opening of the door to the Akashic Records and allowing me to work with them from that point onwards. It is the same approach that I now share with my own students.

Occasionally, during a reading, I become aware that a client seems to be experiencing the Akashic Records alongside me without making any deliberate effort to do so. In those moments, I feel they have been given a glimpse of the Records for themselves. Those experiences are impossible to predict, but when they happen, I consider it a real privilege to witness them

There is no single “right” way to access the Akashic Records. Each person’s journey unfolds in its own time and in its own way.

Can Anyone Access the Akashic Records?

Absolutely. I believe anyone can learn to access the Akashic Records. Like any worthwhile skill, however, confidence develops through study, practice and experience. Some people receive insights very quickly, while becoming consistent enough to work with the Records regularly takes time, patience and dedication.

Does Everyone Experience the Akashic Records in the Same Way?

No. One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that there is no single way people experience the Akashic Records. Some people describe books, others experience light, colours, symbols, words, feelings or simply a deep sense of knowing. None of these experiences are necessarily right or wrong. They are simply different ways of experiencing something that exists beyond our physical understanding.

Personal experience

My own experience has also changed over the years. My fascination with the Akashic Records began many years before I ever trained to access them. Around forty ago I read one of Edgar Cayce’s books describing his experiences of the Hall of Records, and the idea stayed with me. I even experimented with hypnosis in an attempt to explore them for myself, although with only limited success. So, when I was eventually attuned to the Akashic Records, it was Edgar Cayce’s description that I expected to experience.

Instead, during the attunement process, I was simply made aware of a single book lying in front of me. I placed my hand on it, and in that moment everything changed. The book disappeared and was replaced by a brilliant white light, and that is how I have experienced the Akashic Records ever since. Rather than seeing shelves of books or a great spiritual library, I experience a field of light from which information naturally comes in response to the questions I ask.

At one point I asked why my experience was so different from Edgar Cayce’s description of the vast Hall of Akashic Records. The understanding I received was that people are often shown symbols they can relate to. In Edgar Cayce’s time, a vast library was the perfect image for a place containing unlimited knowledge. Today, we might compare that idea to information stored in the internet or cloud. The image is different, but the purpose is the same: to help us understand something that exists beyond the physical world.

Later, I asked to be shown what the Akashic Records looked like beyond those familiar symbols. What I experienced is difficult to describe in words. The closest comparison I can give is countless streams of glittering silver and gold light, flowing like rain. Each stream seemed to represent the journey of a soul and the information connected with it. It reminded me a little of the flowing symbols in The Matrix, except that everything was made of living light. I don’t present this as the definitive way the Akashic Records appear, only as the way they were shown to me.

What Happens During an Akashic Records Reading?

Every Akashic Records reading is different because every person brings their own questions, experiences and circumstances. Although no two readings are ever the same, they all follow a similar, relaxed and conversational format.

Before we meet, you’ll complete an application form where you can tell me a little about yourself and the questions you’d like to explore. This also gives you the opportunity to give permission for me to access your Akashic Records for the purpose of your reading. Once I receive your application, I prepare beforehand by opening your Records and making notes so that we can make the best use of our time together.

At the start of the session, we’ll meet on Zoom and I’ll explain how the reading works before answering any questions you may have. Although I’ve already prepared information based on the questions you submitted, you’re welcome to ask additional questions at any time during the reading.

The reading is relaxed and conversational. You’re welcome to interrupt me, ask questions or explore something in more detail whenever you wish. Additional information always comes through during our conversation, allowing the reading to develop naturally around the questions that matter most to you.

Most clients choose to include a guided visualisation as part of their reading. The most popular is meeting a spirit guide, although others prefer visualisations that help them understand and release energetic blocks, connect with their higher self or explore another area that has arisen during the session.  These visualisations give clients the opportunity to experience and explore the information for themselves, making the reading a more personal and interactive experience.

Towards the end of the reading, we summarise what we’ve explored, make sure all your questions have been answered, and ensure you’re comfortable before we finish. Shortly afterwards, I’ll send you a recording of the session so that you can revisit the information whenever you wish.

How Did I Come to Work with the Akashic Records?

My own path into the Akashic Records began many years ago, when I had a reading with an established Akashic Records reader who later became my mentor. She told me that I seemed to be standing between two paths: mediumship and the Akashic Records. She felt the Records would allow me to receive more detailed information and take my work further. She offered to attune me the following day, and that was how my journey began. Only later did I realize she had recognized that direction before I did.

Looking back, I believe my years of mediumship, channelling and intuitive development gave me a real head start. By the time I received my Akashic Records attunement, I was already comfortable receiving intuitive information,  working with the Records felt like a natural progression rather than starting from the beginning.
